Tyanne Mitchell Assignment 26.1 Theory in Films In this report I will be closely analysing and explaining two contrasting directors and closely analysing and explaining two different theories, whilst giving detailed examples of their work. The two directors I have chosen Quentin Tarantino an auteur and Ang Lee a queer director. Quentin Tarantino was born in Tennessee in 1963, he moved to California at age 4. His love of movies led to a job in a video store, during which time he wrote the scripts for True Romance and Natural Born Killers. The first film that Tarantino directed was Reservoir Dogs, however he reieved a lot of critisizm in comparison to how much praise he received for Pulp Fiction. Known for his unpredictable, random and  violent films, Quentin Tarantino’s fame was first recognized for the well-known film ‘Pulp Fiction’. He later went on to direct direct 'Inglourious Basterds' and 'Django Unchained.' An auteur is an artist i.e. a film di

Task 1 Film in Theory Structuralism: Structuralist film theory emphasizes how films convey meaning through the use of codes and conventions not dissimilar to the way languages are used to construct meaning in communication. Semiotics: Semiotic analysis is a way to explain how an audience makes meaning from codes. All meaning is encoded in that which creates the meaning. Auteur theory: Theory of filmmaking in which the director is viewed as the major creative force in a motion picture. Psychoanalytic: Psychoanalytic film theory is a school of academic thought that evokes of the concepts of psychoanalysts Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan. The theory is closely tied to Critical theory, Marxist film theory, and Apparatus theory.
Charlie and The Chocolate Factory Why do you think that Tim Burton has been categorized as Auteur filmmaker? Is there a message told in the film? Tim Burton is recognized as an auteur of this generation due to how unique his style of work is. Tim’s work shows consistency, which makes his work distinctive from others, for example the actors he uses are often seen in a lot of his films, such as Johnny Depp and Bonham Carter.   Tim Burton is known for his use of quirky unusual characters, which is a common factor in his films. Also his storylines that he uses in his movies are often similar and always include someone who feels isolated and different from the people or places around them. The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, etc.). The way that he inserts pieces of his own experiences and personality into his films is what makes his such a successful auteur, and separates his films so clearly from others who would aim for the Gothic style. Some people feel as if the aut
What I've learnt so far Firstly, we learnt about genre (French for type). The term genre applies to non-fiction (quiz, shows, sports programmes etc). Audiences find genre appealing because it allows them to know their expectations will be met.  Some media texts are hybrid genres, which means they share conventions of more than one genre. For example, the Twilight film are a hybrid genre, combining horror with romance. The term intertextually refers to the process of creating references to an kind of media text via another media. Pastiche means to combine multiple elements in post modernists media. This can be a parody of past styles and can often reference pop culture as a part of the narrative. Anti-hero post-modern productions often blur the lie lines between good and evil, light and dark for both characters.  I also learnt about the purpose of music videos, such as promotional, extension of income, synergy etc. modern music videos were made to promote the sale
