Film in Theory
Structuralism:
Structuralist film theory emphasizes how films convey
meaning through the use of codes and conventions not dissimilar to the way
languages are used to construct meaning in communication.
Semiotics:
Semiotic analysis is a way to explain how an audience makes
meaning from codes. All meaning is encoded in that which creates the meaning.
Auteur theory:
Theory of filmmaking in which the director is viewed as the
major creative force in a motion picture.
Psychoanalytic:
Psychoanalytic film theory is a school of academic thought
that evokes of the concepts of psychoanalysts Sigmund Freud and Jacques Lacan.
The theory is closely tied to Critical theory, Marxist film theory, and
Apparatus theory.
